EA Could Stop Releasing An Annual FIFA / Madden Every Year Some Day
EA may make some changes down the line.
Online subscriptions could be the future of annual releases of sports games like FIFA and Madden NFL says Andrew Wilson, EA CEO. According to Wilson, as the industry moves towards the 'games as a service' model and consumers rely on more & more digital downloads, the transition will be easier.
Madden's mobile title was given as an example by Wilson; the game was released 3 years ago and only received big updates every season. However, the CEO is aware of the challenge of translating a model that works well on mobile to a console game. "When we design a game that lives in a true streaming world, we have to think about screen size and session time".
"How does a Madden game that exist in the cloud manifest on your mobile phone, one minute at a time? How does that manifest on your 60 inch TV, an hour at a time?"
