You Won't Be Able To Customise Your Character In Sea Of Thieves
Yo-ho-no me hearties.
For those of us who love to spend 5 hours making tweaks in character creation to essentially put themselves in the game, I've got a bit of bad news for you. You won't be able to create and customise your character in the same way you would in other games.
When you jump into a game for the very first time, sometimes it has this daunting character creation system which encapsulates you for a good few hours perfecting a virtual form of yourself, however Sea Of Thieves isn't like that. The game will generate 8 pirates based on random components like gender, race, body type, age etc, and you'll be able to choose one of them afterwards.
You'll be able to repeat this as many times as you'd like, generating 8 characters every time, but you won't be able to make any adjustments. You'll also be able to view the character performing different animations and poses to give you an idea of what it's going to look like in-game.
You may be asking why you're not granted the ability to create your own mini me. One of the reasons is gameplay releated; by controlling the looks of players' characters, Rare can create game mechanics that change your character's appearance. Craig Duncan, studio director, gave the example of a "fountain of youth" type feature that could dramatically change the way you look, which is only possibly if the developer is able to control the different mutations. It's worth mentioning that this feature isn't actually in the game.
"It will encourage players to pick a character who wouldn't normally be a character they would create in a character creator. It's not about just making ourselves" he added.
Are you fussed that you won't be able to make a mini me in Sea Of Thieves? Let us know below!
